Amazing Ajummas Continues!

I am  hoping to be taking some lessons from this lady when I get back from our visit to the States.  Her shop is in Suwon and she does incredible miniatures.  Hannah, my Korean girlfriend, found where her shop is and it's only a bus and subway ride away.  Rocketman thinks I'm crazy to want to add more classes.  She works in polymer clay and I haven't touch clay in a long time and I'm getting the urge to play in clay.

Amazing Ajumma Week!

I tend to be negative more than positive when it comes to the subject of ajummas (older Korean women) and it's time to change that because I have met many wonderful ajummas while living in South Korea.  So I hereby declare this week to be "Amazing Ajumma Week" where I will be sharing videos of amazing ajummas. Here is my first ajumma.  She is a bowmaker extraordinaire!!  Enjoy!

Koreans LOVE This Recipe!

My Korean girlfriends go crazy for this dip.  If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that I'm not a good cook and struggle with cooking.  But I must say that this dip is sooooo addictive and delicious.
Here are the ingredients: Good Seasons Italian Dressing packet and two small tubs of cream cheese or if you are in the States, one regular size block of Philadelphia's cream cheese. That's all folks!
Place them into a bowl and mix.  Mix well.
Then put it into the fridge for a few hours to let the seasonings blend.  We love to eat them with Wheatables but you can use anything.  I call it Italian Dip.  I'm picking up a bunch of Good Seasons packets while we are in the States for my Korean girlfriends.

Korean Fashionista

Yes, even the elevators here in South Korea are gorgeous!  When you enter any and I mean any elevator, you will find a mirror where you can preen and fix any flaws.  Every girl has a compact and is not afraid to use it in public.
How could it not affect me.  Everywhere I go, I see girls wearing cute accessories, from the very young still in diapers to the ajummas.  Accessories are everywhere too and so I have fallen victim to the impulse buy like you see above.  Back home, I may have gone out in a pony tail or use bobby pins to pull my hair back.  Not here, I make sure I have a cute barrette.  These accessories here in South Korea are very reasonable in price and just plain addictive.  Don't tell Rocketman!

Chilbo (Korean Enameling)

Remember this chilbo piece that I submitted into an exhibition?   Nan told me this week that she got a call and I was accepted!  This is my first juried show and I'm so excited.  She told me that the prime minister of Korea would be there and I would receive a certificate and a booklet with my work and others in it.  She said it will be in Seoul and June 30th.  She wrote a lot of information down and I'll have Hannah translate it for me.

Even though I'm gone, I have a lot of posts lined up for the next two weeks.  Next week is "Amazing Ajumma Week."  You won't want to miss it!!!

Chilbo (Korean Enameling)

Chilbo was my last class before jetting off to the U.S.  I thought our grandbaby would be born by now but it looks like I may make it home for the birth. WooHoo!  I was surprised to see my old chilbo friend who came in to work on a chilbo piece.  She had just finished and fired the necklace she is wearing so Nan and I had her pose for us.
I also picked up a few gifts.  I've become quite Korea with my giftgiving.  Koreans are big on giftgiving even for visits.
I bought out all Nan had of these phone charms.
This is what I made today.  My piece from last week is done but I got the idea to have the wood guy put a piece of wood on the back of it to make it easier to put on the wall.  I'm going to do that to all the pieces I have made so far.
One of Nan's friends always drops in when I am there and I have so many new friends because of it.  This time a friend brough kimchi so I went home with some for dinner.  I love that about Korea!

Today we fly home for a visit and we are returning June 16th.  We originally going to return on the 23rd but Rocketman's work got crazy over here and he really needs to be in Asia. I don't mind since I feel in a lot of way that we just got here.  I can't wait to see everyone!
